Insight to Action: a simple way to use the cards in 1:1s

Insight to Action: a simple way to use the cards in 1:1s

Exercise : Problem Solving and Action Planning:  "Insight to Action"

A simple and effective 1:1 exercise for leaders and team members.

A 20 min activity

Leader Preparation:

  • Identify a challenge your team member is currently facing or ask your team member to bring the challenge to the 1:1.

In the 1:1:

1. Challenge Overview (3 minutes)

  • Ask your team member to briefly describe the challenge they are facing.

2. Card Selection (2 minutes)

  • Choose a card that may offer insight or a new perspective on the challenge.

3. Insight Generation (5 minutes)

  • Have your team member reflect on the card’s message and how it applies to their challenge.
  • Discuss their insights and new perspectives gained from the card.

4. Action Planning (8 minutes)

  • Collaborate with your team member to brainstorm potential actions they can take to address the challenge.
  • Point your team member to the relevant web pages on the Neuro Nudges website. The carefully curated pages are packed full of information, tips and resources. You can even check out the webpages then and there, if that's helpful and there's sufficient time.
  • Help them prioritise the actions and create a step-by-step plan.
  • Consider the implications of the neuroscience on the back of the cards. What does this mean for their action? What neuro-insight does this create for the team member?

5. Commitment (2 minutes)

  • Ask your team member to commit to one immediate action step they will take within the next week.
